Buying local and supporting local

The guys from VF believe local produce is best, and with the current situation- there hasn’t been a better time.

Always, always start at your local farmers market (if you’re lucky enough to have one close by). This way you are buying local, building a relationship with the stallholders and getting to know what is in season in your area. At the markets you will generally get the freshest produce, often picked the day before. You can also get cheaper produce without a tonne of packaging. Meeting your local growers and buying in season is what markets are all about.

If you’re a Noosa local or visiting the area, The Noosa Farmers Market is on every Sunday from 6am.

some of VFs favourite stalls:

@flyingwestroasters for local roasted coffee

@thesunflowerhotel for their famous Mother Earth smoothie

@farmerdrewaust for beautiful handmade baskets/ string bags/ turkish towels (great for gifts)

+ look for produce stalls with local grown produce- shop around until you find what you’re looking for.

Just remember to bring a basket and bags.

If you can’t get to a farmers market you can still shop local- IGA’s are great and often have a local and/or organic section- just be mindful that organic produce at supermarkets generally comes in plastic packaging- as organic is not the norm, YET!

IGA’s often have a local section as well- granolas, cheeses, jams etc (Peregian Beach IGA has a great wholefood/ local section)

Also find out if there’s a an organic grocer in your area, they often have cafes attached to them, so you can do your shopping and grab some T/A lunch or dinner as well (Organika and BioShop at Belmondos Organic Market are two great locations in Noosa).

The Source Bulk Foods is a zero waste shopping experience, they have stores all over Australia, click here to find the store closest to you. The staff are always friendly and have lots of organic products and many stores also have bulk cleaning products.
